Brad Smith Thoughts on ARCA “International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200”
Talladega Superspeedway, Talladega, AL – April 29,2015
When asked about his thoughts on the upcoming ARCA “International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200” this Friday at Talladega Superspeedway, Hylton Motorsports driver Brad Smith had no hesitation.
“The Boss won the NASCAR Talladega race in 1972. He’s been hinting that he’s ready for another trophy. I’d love to win this thing for him. It would mean a ton to the whole team. We’ve been working hard all year and I hope our persistence is about to pay off”.
Smith continued, “We’re really looking forward to getting our superspeedway car on the track with the new Ilmor Engineering engine. We were very competitive at Daytona with that package and look forward to applying a few lessons learned for an even better run at Talladega.
An extra piece of tape on the grille and .10 different on the gear and we would have been even better. That sounds very insignificant, but it was actually huge in February. We’re ready– and really, really looking forward to this opportunity”.
When asked about former Talladega race winner and legendary car owner James Hylton, Smith quipped, “It’s great to have someone with James’ experience to coach and mentor you. He’s run a lot of races and been in a lot of different situations. I really value his experience and try to learn as much as I can from him.
He knows his way around all of these race tracks”. “We will likely run a fairly conservative race until the last 25 laps. Draft with people we are comfortable running with. Conserve our tires & fuel in case of an extended race. Then go all out for the win.”
