Brad Smith Opens 2015 Season at Daytona

Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach FL – February 15, 2015

I opened the 2015 season running my old Ford superspeedway car as James Hylton’s number 49. The car is a bit dated, but still competitive.

Losing the lead draft early in the race caused me to finish 22nd. I had to pit at the first caution to pull off a piece of tape and that sent me to the back of the field. The only chance I had would have been to stay out on the last caution, but the glare off the windshield was so bad I was forced to pit and clean the oil off the glass.

Unfortunately, the sun ducked below the frontstretch stands 3 laps after the final green flag fell. Had that sun gone down 5 minutes earlier I would have stayed out and been back in the lead draft. Placing me very likely in the top-15, possibly even top-10 finish.

But that’s racing.

We will be very good again at Talladega.
