Brad Celebrates 100th Start at Michigan!

Michigan International Speedway – Brooklyn, MI – June 19, 2004

In his 100th ARCA RE/MAX Series start — Saturday’s Flagstar 200 — Brad Smith posted a respectable 28th place finish.

After starting from the 37th spot, Brad and the whole team worked hard to keep the No. 26 Koolmat.com Ford running strong. They made a stop under the first caution period to take tape off the front grill and top off the fuel. Brad was happy with lap times and the engine, which the team had changed immediately before qualifying on Friday, was running smoothly.

The team discussed pit strategy (among other things) while the red flag was shown for almost twenty minutes to clean up a wreck between the 10 and 06. Brad and crew chief Phil Silardi discussed a track bar adjustment and pitting for fuel again, which they did under the fourth caution period.
Another pit stop took place for the team during the sixth caution period. Brad had the windshield cleaned and the car was filled with enough fuel to finish the race.

On lap 88 Brad told the crew that the tires were starting to go away — not bad for running the entire race on one set of tires. He held on and raced for position the last couple laps, with the 65 car of Brack Maggard just barely squeaking by him as they took the checkered flag five laps down.

Brad finished the race in 28th, in what he felt was a very strong team effort.
